Gary, one of the founding fathers of the Cliffe Minstermen is having to miss one of the most anticipated away games in years due to a work assignment in the middle of the North Sea.
While we will be enjoying the delights that Portsmouth has to offer, Gary is on a fact finding mission on the 'Huldra Platform' of the coast of Norway in the middle of the North Sea.
To be fair for Gary it is a very important gig on the rig and he is away from Thursday to the following Tuesday.
To get to go on the Rig, Gary spent last week doing his safety training in Fleetwood, only yards away from one of York City's 2014 away wins. He told me that in his training that he was going to have to escape from a helicopter in swimming pool. Of course that brought visions of Gary wrestling underwater with a bond style villain namely John Parkin.
Apparently that was not the case and Gary had to escape from the helicopter underwater 7 times before being signed off to be able to go onto the oil rig in the North Sea.
As Gary was in Fleetwood for a few nights I asked him what he did to whole away the time "I spent my time searching for Matty Blair's Fleetwood Career" "but I didn't find anything though".
